Gunsmoke performs music made famous by legendary country, western-swing, and rockabilly artists.

The outdoor concert is free and open to the public. It is part of the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department’s Music Under the Stars weekly summer concert series.

People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets as well as picnic food and refreshments. Food trucks will be on-site as well.

Rain date is the following evening (in case of inclement weather, call the Parks & Rec recorded cancellation line at 203-331-4120).

Been performing for three decades

Gunsmoke has been entertaining audiences at fairs, festivals, clubs, private parties and concerts since 1982. The band has performed for two sitting U.S. presidents.

The music group has recorded six albums in Nashville and has performed in Ernest Tubb’s Midnite Jamboree in Nashville, following the Grand Ole Opry.

Gunsmoke has been inducted into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame, into the Country Music and Dance Hall of Fame in Mount Kisco, N.Y., and been named Band of the Year six years in a row by the New York Metro Country Music Association.

A family affair

The band was formed by Nick DeMaio III, who plays bass and sings lead vocals, and his younger brother Jeff, who plays pedal steel guitar and sings.

Their father, country music veteran Nick DeMaio Sr., a guitarist and singer, is known as “The Ambassador.”

The band also includes drummer Nick DeMaio IV, vocalist Christina Mae DeMaio, lead guitarist Van Mankas, and fiddle player Fooch Fischetti.
