New student registration for Shelton schools starts Monday

Shelton-districtStarting Monday, students new to the Shelton Public School system will have the opportunity to register in the district. Certain documents will be needed, such as proof of residency and immunization records.

Kindergarten through fourth grade

Registration for new students entering kindergarten through fourth grade in the Shelton public schools will be Monday, July 28, through Thursday, Aug. 14.

Registration at this time will be on a walk-in basis at the central office at 382 Long Hill Avenue, 9 to noon, Monday through Thursday.

All new students

From Monday, Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 22, summer registration will be at all schools for all new students at each school from 9-2 p.m.

Proof of residency

All parents seeking to enroll their student/s in the Shelton School System will be asked  to supply a current Connecticut driver’s license along with two forms of verification of local residency.

Documents that will be accepted include: mortgage receipt, rental receipt or copy of a lease, utility bills (i.e. gas, electric, telephone and cable). The documents must be brought to the school at the time of registration.

Parents are asked to supply the school with the child’s official birth certificate or passport (if needed).

Immunization

Parents must supply the child’s immunization records. Immunizations for protection against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus (DPT), polio (OPV-IPV), measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and Haemophilus Influenza type B (Hib) are required under state law for all students to enter school.

Kindergarten students must be 5 years-old on or before Jan. 1, 2015, and must have had a varicella vaccine.

Hepatitis B vaccine series is required for all students born after Jan. 1, 1994. A second (booster) dose of either measles or MMR is required before entering seventh grade.

Students entering seventh grade must have a completed physical with updated immunizations including Hepatitis B.

Students entering eighth grade must have completed the Hepatitis B series. Children who have not had chicken pox before entering seventh grade must have a varicella vaccine before the school year.

Shelton High School freshmen must have a completed physical and updated immunizations prior to beginning their sophomore year.

All students without required immunizations and physical may not attend school.

Students with special needs

Parents whose child/children have special needs are asked to call the office of curriculum, instruction and support services so that the school records can be received before the start of school at 203-924-1023, ext. 319.
