Shelton AARP chapter honors local official

Lillian Emery, center, one of the original founders of the AARP Huntington Chapter who will celebrate her 100th birthday this summer, joined state Sen. Kevin Kelly and fellow AARP members at a recent luncheon and award ceremony.

Sen. Kelly, who represents Shelton, received the AARP 2013 Legislative Achievement Award at the Shelton AARP chapter luncheon to recognize his efforts to support residents age 50 and older in 2013. He is ranking member on the General Assembly’s Aging Committee.

He was recognized for his leadership in strengthening community services and caregiver supports that give individuals the choice to age with dignity in their own homes.
