Newly-elected State Rep. Ben McGorty (R-122) has received his legislative committee assignments for the remainder of the year. McGorty was sworn into office following his victory in a special election on July 22. He will finish the remainder of State Rep. Larry Miller’s term, following his death in May.
His appointments come from House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. (R-42). Cafero appointed McGorty to the same committees that Miller served on. He will remain on those committees until January 2015.
McGorty will serve on the legislature’s energy and technology committee, which has cognizance on all matters concerning the Department of Public Utility Control and energy planning and activities.
He has also been re-appointed to the environment committee which has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Environmental Protection, including conservation, recreation, pollution control, fisheries and game, state parks and forests, water resources and flood and erosion control; and all matters relating to the department of agriculture, including farming, dairy products and domestic animals.
In addition, McGorty will serve on the legislature’s housing committee which has cognizance over all matters relating to housing and housing programs.
McGorty represents the 122nd District which includes parts of the towns of Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull.
