Former Shelton resident, now a priest, will celebrate Mass at St. Lawrence

Father Karlo Hocurscak will celebrate the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Aug. 24, at St. Lawrence Church in Shelton.

He is the son of John and Nancy Hocurscak of Shelton. He was ordained a priest on May 24 in the Boston Archdiocese.

St. Lawrence Church is at 505 Shelton Ave. in the city’s Huntington section.

Grew up in Shelton

Hocurscak attended Shelton public schools through the sixth grade. After graduating from high school, he went on to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, where he received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.

While attending WPI, Hocurscak served as a lector and eucharistic minister at the campus Masses.

Following college, he found work as a chemical engineer. As time went on, Hocurscak thought more and more about entering the seminary.

In 2008, he entered St. John’s Seminary. Hocurscak was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate on Jan. 18 this year.
