Creature Teachers — Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1:30 p.m. Naturalist Richard Roth talks about animals on Earth; seating limited, free tickets available at 1 p.m.

Kids in the Kitchen — Wednesday, Aug. 13, 6 p.m. The trip around the world with food continues for kids 3-12 as they practice basic cooking skills. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for mess. Registration is limited and required.

AlphaBits — Thursdays, Aug. 14 and 21, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them kindergarten ready; drop-in session, siblings welcome.

Raising Readers — Thursday, Aug. 14, 10:30 a.m. Parents join Jane Bailey of the Shelton School Readiness Council for the final sessions promoting reading as a family enrichment activity. Learn tips to help kids become better readers, receive handouts plus a book to build your family’s library. Register.

Stay & Play — Fridays, Aug. 15 and 22, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.

Family Fun Friday — Friday, Aug. 15, 1 p.m. Board game extravaganza. Kids 1-12 years and caregivers drop-in and explore Plumb’s board games with Miss Maura.

Work OUT: Kickboxing & Yoga — Friday, Aug. 15, 1:30 p.m. Guest fitness instructor Michelle Collings gets teens (13-19) moving in this free one hour workout at the Shelton Riverwalk (weather permitting) be sure to bring a towel and water bottle.

Repeat Reads — Friday, Aug. 15, 6 p.m. Adults of all ages re-read (or read for the first time) classics from earlier years. This month’s titles are Judy Blume’s Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great and Beverly Cleary’s Ramona Quimby, age 8. Copies of the books are available, new members welcome.

Teen Movie Marathon — Vin Diesel/Fast and Furious 1-6 movie marathon, Saturday Aug. 16, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Teens 14-18 are invited to a day-long war movie extravaganza, snacks included; drop in.

Fun for Little Ones — Tuesdays, Aug. 19 and 26, 10 a.m. Mrs. Fritsch offers stories, songs and movement for babies and toddlers up to age 2 in this themed drop-in program; siblings welcome, too.

Creative Kids — Tuesdays, Aug. 19 and 26, 1 p.m. Youth 1-12 years old and their caregivers welcome to explore many mediums, tricks and techniques to create one-of-a-kind art in this drop-in program.

Aloha Summer — Tuesday, Aug. 19, 6 p.m. Kids say farewell to another summer as Brian Lizotte shares his magic tricks. This drop in program is open to all, but there will be special prizes for kids who finished the summer reading program No advance registration, free tickets available at 5:30 p.m.

knit! — Tuesdays, Aug. 19 and 26, 6 p.m. Adult fiber fans meet to knit, crochet and chat, lots of support and fellowship in this drop in group, stop in and bring a friend.

Teen OverNight — Friday Aug. 22, 5 p.m. Spend the night, share games, contests, cooking, crafts, movies and more. Special prizes for teens (13-19) who competed in Teen Summer Reading Program. Permission slips required, bring a sleeping bag and change of clothes.

Family Fun Friday — Friday, Aug. 22, 1 p.m. This week the tale of a timid clownfish who sets out on a journey to bring home his son after he is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney; families bring the drinks, the library provides the popcorn, all ages.

Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch library, 203-926-0111). A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
