Bluefish to host luncheon with baseball great ‘Doc’ Gooden

Former New York Met and Yankee pitcher Dwight “Doc” Gooden will be at a Bridgeport Bluefish luncheon to benefit a local Boys & Girls Club.

Shelton-Bluefish-Logo “Lunch with a Legend” event will take place Sunday, August 24 from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Harbor Club at the baseball team’s Harbor Yard Ballpark in downtown Bridgeport. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club, with facilities in Fairfield and Bridgeport.

The event will include lunch, a private meet-and-greet with Gooden, and a game ticket for that afternoon’s Bluefish game against the Lancaster (Pa.) Barnstormers. The cost to attend is $65.

Cy Young, Rookie of the Year winner

“I am looking forward to coming to Bridgeport and working with the Bridgeport Bluefish to raise money for the local Boys and Girls Club,” said Gooden, who won the 1985 National League Cy Young Award and was named the 1984 National League Rookie of the Year.

Gooden is a three-time World Series champion, winning in 1986 with the New York Mets and then in 1996 and 2000 with the New York Yankees. He finished a 16-year Major League Baseball career with a 194-112 record and 3.51 Earned Run Average, playing for the Mets, Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Devil Rays.

Will share baseball stories

“The Bluefish are committed to rewarding our guests with opportunities to rub shoulders with some of baseball’s greats,” said Ken Shepard, Bluefish General Manager. “We are excited to bring ‘Doc’ to town to share baseball stories and benefit the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.”
