Seymour non-profit agency Treasured Time recently raised more than $6,000 with a 24-hour softball marathon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Officials say the funds raised will allow the group to “give the gift of a moment” to a local family battling life-threatening illness.
On July 25-26, 14 teams from around the state, including teams from softball leagues, companies and groups of friends, each played multiple games on the home field of the Bridgeport Bluefish.
Teams paid an entry fee to play and were also encouraged to fund-raise and the highest amount raised would be used in the event of a tie. All proceeds from the event went towards Treasured Time’s mission to help grant the wish of a parent suffering from a life threatening illness.
At the game, players and fans were able to meet the daughter of Heather Bruno, single mother of three suffering from stage 4 inoperable breast cancer. The Bruno family was granted an all-expense paid trip to Disney this July so Heather could see her son enjoy his first trip ever to meet Mickey Mouse.
Event sponsors were: VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, R.D. Scinto, Valley Community Foundation, Minuteman Press, Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen, Bridgeport Bluefish, Starbucks, TD Bank, and American IT Solutions, Inc.
Tournament champs were Rockin’ Jump, which won with 31 runs.
