EDITORIAL: Help Spooner House feed those who are hungry in our community

Spooner House, which serves clients throughout the lower Valley, is making a special push during September as part of Hunger Action Month to help the one in five children at risk of facing hunger daily. That is 19.5% of children in our state. Overall, 520,000 people in Connecticut are at risk of hunger every day.

It is by working together that we can help stamp out hunger in the Valley and throughout the state. Some suggestions to help this effort are:

— Pledge to make your morning coffee at home for one week and donate the savings to Spooner House. Challenge a friend to join.

— Organize a food drive at your school, workplace or place of worship to help fill the “Giant Pumpkin” in the Spooner House lobby.

— Donate to the “virtual food drive” to help restock the organization’s food pantry shelves.
