The Shelton eighth-grade Orange football team moved its record to 3-0 with a 21-8 win over Madison.
Offense, defense and special teams combined on a total team victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Vikings marched 53 yards and Nick Andrade converted on a 30-yard field goal to make the score 3-0 Shelton.
Madison drove down to the Shelton 24-yard line, where Colin St. Pierre ended the drive with an interception.
The Vikings then went on a 76-yard, 16-play drive highlighted by three fourth-down conversions and a Brian Berritio 2-yard touchdown run. The extra point failed and the Vikings led 9-0 at the half.
To start the second half, Shelton fumbled the kick return which gave Madison great field position and it scored on a 22-yard pass to cut its deficit to 9-8. The Viking defense would give up only three more first downs, the defense, led by Jake Falanga (6 tackles) Martin Dominguez (4 tackles) Jake Breton (5 tackles) and Jake Roberts (5 tackles), would shut out Madison for the rest of the game.
The offensive line of David Youngquist, Sam Chalk, Colin Mengold, Sean Rego, Connor Greene and Cameron Asmussen dominated the line of scrimmage. The Vikings used a balanced running attack with Andrade, St. Pierre, Berrito, and Falanga to rush for over 215 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Roberts was 7-for-10 passing for 79 yards and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jake Breton. St. Pierre’s 1-yard touchdown run gave the a Vikings 21-8 lead to provide the final scoreline.
