Flu shots to be available Tuesday at Shelton Health and Wellness Fair

The Naugatuck Valley Health District (NVHD) will offer influenza vaccine clinics to Valley residents in September, October and November.

Flu vaccination — with the shot or nasal spray — is recommended for everyone 6 months of age or older.

Flu shots will be available on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 9-11 a.m. at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St., during the Senior Health and Wellness Fair.

Another clinic will take place at the Shelton Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 9-10 a.m. No appointments are necessary for this clinic.

Flu vaccine will also be available by appointment during the district’s immunization clinics every Tuesday from 1- 3 p.m. in October at the NVHD office, 98 Bank St., Seymour. Pre-registration is required for the district office clinics.

Children needing flu shots will be accommodated by appointment at regularly scheduled immunization clinics at the NVHD office.

The Health District accepts Aetna, Cigna, ConnectiCare, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Medicare Part B (bring proper insurance cards). It does not accept Medicare Advantage plans, Oxford or United HealthCare.

Three viruses targeted

All of the 2014-15 influenza vaccine is made to protect against the following three viruses:

— A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)

— A/Texas/50/2012 (H3N2)

— B/Massachusetts/2/2012

Some of the 2014-2015 flu vaccine also protects against an additional B virus (B/Brisbane/60/2008).
