The man who police now have in custody lives on Longview Road and had threatened to harm himself, Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said.

The 41-year-old man reportedly was seen with a gun in his yard earlier in the day, and multiple law enforcement officials responded to the scene at slightly past 3 p.m.

Kozlowsky said police negotiators were able to successfully negotiate with the man, who then surrendered.

“It was his property,” Kozlowsky said of where the incident took place.
