Symphony performs Broadway tunes Sunday in Shelton

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will perform songs from well-known Broadway shows at a concert for the public on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. at Shelton Intermediate School, 675 Constitution Blvd. North.

“The Best of Broadway” concert is part of the NHSO’s 2014-15 Pops Series.

Led by Chelsea Tipton in his debut as NHSO principal pops conductor, the program will feature opera and Broadway performers Nat Chandler and Carol Dusdieker singing tunes from Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Carousel, Gypsy, South Pacific and other plays.

 

Background of the performers

Tipton has appeared with numerous major orchestras in the United States, including those in Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, New Jersey, Nashville and Pittsburgh.

Shelton-NhsoLogoChandler, a baritone, appeared in the title role of The Scarlet Pimpernel and in Children and Art, both on Broadway.

Dusdieker, a soprano, has performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Toledo Symphony.

Tickets are $35 or $49; students are $10; KidTix (ages 7-17) are free with the purchase of an adult ticket; and  free for active military personnel and their immediate families.
