State plans Shelton meeting on proposed work to bridge over the Housatonic

A public information meeting on plans to upgrade the Route 8 bridge over the Housatonic River between Shelton and Derby will take place in Shelton.

The state Department of Transportation will conduct the session on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Shelton City Hall auditorium, 54 Hill St., Shelton.

The meeting will cover the planned rehabilitation of the Commodore Hull Bridge. The proposed project consists of steel repair, localized painting, substructure repair, upgrade of the lower inspection catwalk, and general repairs to the bridge fencing, railing, drainage and navigation system.

Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2017 and be completed in the fall of 2018.

“The public information meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for the public’s participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project,” according to the DOT.

Anyone interested in the project is welcome to attend the Oct. 29 meeting and discuss the project with DOT personnel.
