Opens Friday: Age of Aquarius comes to the local stage with production of ‘Hair’

The 1960s rock musical “Hair” will be performed from Oct. 10 to 25 by the Bridgeport Theatre Company (BTC).

The play tells the story of the “tribe,” a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the Age of Aquarius living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War.

“Hair” begins the BTC’s fifth season. It will be performed at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 262 Golden Hill St., where the BTC operates in residence and presents the Community Theatre Series.

 

The cast

The play’s cast of 19 local performers includes Bill Adams, Arielle Boutin, Acacia Cannon, Joe Cardozo, Marques Christopher, Chelsea Dacey, Lisa DeAngelis, Minuette Griffin, Bobby Henry, Paige Howell, Christian Jordan, Kamilah Lindo, Ryan Marcone, Sarah Paige Morris, Elisa Pasqua, Rene Ragan, Jessica Rahrig, Mackenzie Sherrod and Garth Lando West.

This production will feature direction and choreography by Lance Gray, musical direction by Eli Newsom, set design by Ryan O’Neill, costume design by Jessica Camarero, lighting design by Hugh Hallinan, and sound design by Chris Gensur. Sarah Iannarone serves as resident production stage manager for BTC.

 

Shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday

The performance schedule for “Hair” is Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 5 and 8:30 p.m. (Oct. 18 and 25, with no performance Oct. 11); and Sundays at 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 and 19. Tickets are $28 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $18 for students.

Seating begins 45 minutes before show time, and an attended parking lot is available across from the theater on Golden Hill Street. Concessions are available for purchase throughout each performance, and patrons can pack their picnics (bring-you-own food and refreshments) for the full “Downtown Cabaret experience.”
