Shelton spaghetti dinner on Nov. 2 to support Shelton’s ‘Super Ray’

A spaghetti dinner fund-raiser to support a 10-year-old Shelton boy battling cancer will take place Sunday, Nov. 2, from noon to 4 at the Huntington Fire Company, 44 Church St.

The event at the firehouse will include Italian food, DJ music, family activities, and fun with friends, according to organizers.

Ray McPadden III was diagnosed in April and has been receiving medical treatment ever since, which has meant spending a lot of time in the hospital.

The “Ray of Hope” fund-raiser for “Super Ray” McPadden is being sponsored by Shelton Boy Scout Troop 101. All proceeds will go directly to the McPadden family to help with expenses related to Ray’s illness.

Young Ray has been described as “very outgoing, funny, athletic, and smart” and  is known as “Shelton’s Superman.”

The troop’s Marc Connolly said the impetus for the event came from troop members, who approached adult leaders with the idea. “That was impressive,” he said of their desire to help a fellow young person.

Connolly said the dinner is turning into a real community effort, with other Scout troops chipping in, the fire company providing the venue, and many businesses helping out.

Activities will include face-painting and Hula-Hoop lessons. “Come to eat for an hour but spend three hours with friends,” Connolly said.

Ray III is the son of Marybeth McPadden and the late Ray McPadden Jr., who died at age 49 in early 2013 when trying to shovel out his vehicle during the massive snowstorm that shut down the state of Connecticut for days.

Reservations for the spaghetti dinner are being taken for noon, 1, 2, and 3 p.m. To reserve a spot, go to:
