Initial Ebola test results on Yale student could be known late this afternoon

Officials are saying preliminary test results from the Yale graduate student who has been admitted to the hospital with Ebola-like symptoms could be known today as soon as 4 p.m.

The student was admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital late last night and now is being kept in an isolation unit.

The student recently returned from doing research on the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, one of the West African countries where the epidemic is centered. More than 4,000 people have died from Ebola in West Africa in recent months.

According to reports, a positive preliminary test would mean further tests would need to be done to determine for certain whether the student has Ebola.
