Republican Tom Foley has a 7% lead over Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in the race for governor, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

The poll shows Foley at 50% and Malloy at 43%. It was conducted from Oct. 14 to 16 and involved interviewing 980 likely voters.

Rasmussen is a firm that releases public polls that often lean slightly Republican.

Malloy is seeking re-election to a second term. He defeated Foley in an extremely close election for governor in 2010.

The last poll before Rasmussen was from the Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University Poll, which indicated the race was tied at 46%-46% on Oct. 6

Prior to that, Public Policy Polling (a Democratic-leaning firm) gave Malloy a 45%-39% lead on Oct. 5, and a CBS News/New York Times poll found a 41%-41% tie on Oct. 1.
