Shelton man charged with stealing firearm, credit cards, GPS units, etc.

A Shelton man has been charged with multiple burglary and larceny charges, including the theft of a firearm.

Kyle Eckweiler, 21, of Shelton was served five separate arrest warrants on Oct. 22. The warrants were served at state Superior Court in Derby and Eckweiler was held on a $92,500 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned on the afternoon of Oct. 22.

Eckweiler was originally arrested by police on Sept. 23. A subsequent search by officers located numerous credit cards with different names, a couple of GPS units, three purses, and other items, police said.

Detectives then followed up on the seized items and were able to determine that the items were stolen from vehicles, police said.


Arrested on a dozen charges

Eckweiler was charged with:

— theft of firearm

— criminal possession of a firearm

— four counts of third-degree burglary

— three counts of sixth-degree larceny

— fourth-degree larceny

— violation of probation


Also arrested in October 2013

Eckweiler also was arrested by Shelton police about a year ago on drug and larceny charges.
On Oct. 31, 2013, a Shelton officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle at 555 Bridgeport Ave. The officer allegedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and found two cans of beer.

On further investigation, the officer allegedly found a marijuana pipe, four GPS units, iPhone, a window-punch tool, and various consumer credit and gift cards that had different names on them.
Reports said the GPS units were allegedly stolen from several vehicles.

Eckweiler, then age 20, was charged with fourth-degree larceny, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor, and failure to wear a seatbelt. Bond was $10,000.
