Today from 10-2: Girl Scouts collecting frozen turkeys in Shelton

turkey-frozenThe annual Spooner House frozen turkey and fixings drive has begun to help families in need. There are new locations and offers for everyone donating between now and mid December.

Upcoming collections in Shelton include:

• Girl Scout Troop No. 64164, seventh graders at First United Methodist Church of Shelton, are holding a turkeys-only drive Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The collection is at the church, 188 Rocky Rest Road, Shelton.

• Shelton High School basketball team clinic on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., where non-perishable food and cash will be collected.

Food items may be dropped off at the Spooner House, 30 Todd Road in Shelton, on weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. Checks should be made payable and mailed to: Spooner House, 30 Todd Road, Shelton CT 06484.

Year-round donations for the Spooner House Food Bank are accepted at the Stop & Shop, 100 Division Ave., Ansonia, and Starbucks, 504 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton.

Specific items to help create a holiday basket include: instant potatoes, packages of gravy, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, pie crust mix, pie filling, pickles, olives, evaporated or powdered milk, coffee, tea, powdered juice mix, canned fruit and napkins.
