Local VNA gets grant to help patients in need

The Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut (VNA) has been awarded a $2,000 grant from Webster Bank to be used for the Pam’s Pantry program. The chapter serves Shelton and surrounding communities.

The program started 15 years ago when Pam Gent, clinical manager of acute east team, realized that many of the visiting nurses had been purchasing groceries for patients in need. She decided to open the effort up so that all staff could pitch in and help.

Last year the VNA  distributed Thanksgiving baskets to 75 families. Pam’s Pantry also runs a gift-giving program for Christmas to give gifts to some less fortunate patients.

To make a contribution to support the VNA’s mission of providing an array of health services for individuals in the home and community, including the Pam’s Pantry program, contact Melissa Healy, community development specialist, at 203-859-6054 or [email protected], or go to www.giveGreater.org.
