Football: Grizz, Catamounts to square off again

The top two college club football teams in the country will meet in Stratford Saturday with a berth in the national championship game at stake.

The Yankee Bowl Championship, pitting the second-ranked University of Vermont Catamounts against the top-rated Southwestern Connecticut Prep Grizzlies, is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Bunnell High School.

Dan Stroud of Shelton is a member of the Grizzlies.

Vermont beat Onondaga College 24-17 in a semifinal Saturday. The Grizz got a bye into the Yankee Bowl when the scheduled opponent folded and the replacement opted not to travel to Fairfield County.

The Grizz is made up of players who attend Connecticut’s community colleges.

The two teams met Oct. 25 at Fairfield Ludlowe, with the Grizz prevailing 52-12.

This time, the winner earns a bid to the national championship at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
