A Shelton man has been charged by Fairfield police with burglary, larceny and possession of burglar’s tools.
Jorge Valdes, 51, of 8 Huntington St., Apt. 143, Shelton, was arrested after officers pulled him over on Interstate 95 in Fairfield, near the Westport line.
Police had received a call at about 2:15 p.m. from a King’s Drive resident in Fairfield’s Southport section, who, as she pulled into her driveway with her children, noticed damage to the back door of her house, then an opened door, and then a man inside the home.
The woman immediately backed down the driveway and called police, who arrived shortly after the intruder had driven away in a red pickup truck.
The homeowner gave police the license plate number of the intruder’s vehicle along with a description of the man, his truck, and the direction he had driven in.
Officers quickly caught up with the suspect on the highway and, after stopping him, saw burglar’s tools in the truck, according to police. The homeowner identified the driver, Valdes, as the alleged intruder, police said.
Suspect was held on $100,000 bond
Valdes was held on $100,000 bond.
The homeowner reported a diamond engagement ring worth $2,000 missing from the house.
Fairfield police said Valdes has an extensive criminal history, including a 2012 burglary and larceny conviction in Milford resulting in a five-year prison sentence, suspended after three years.
