Dorothy (Zwierlein) Hurley

Dorothy (Zwierlein) Hurley, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Bridgeport Assistant Fire Chief Robert J. Hurley.

Born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Henry and Louise Zwierlein she was a long time Bridgeport resident before moving to Shelton, CT in her later years.

She is survived by her devoted children, Robert Hurley of Cotuit, MA, Timothy Hurley of Shelton, Daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hurley of Charlestown, Rhode Island, Roger Hurley and his wife Donna of Old Lyme, Linda Laughlin and her husband Jim of Stratford and James Hurley of Boston, MA, her beloved grandchildren, Jesse Hurley and his wife Sharon, Erin Derman and her husband Noah, Melissa Frias and her husband Jay, Meghan Hurley, Seth Hurley, Sarah Hurley and her husband Jeff Tillinghast and James Laughlin, her cherished great-granddaughters, Alaina and Keira Frias, Fiona Tillinghast and Rosa Derman and her sister, Florence Stapleton and her loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Francis Hurley, and daughter-in-law Carol Hurley.

Dorothy was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Some of her happiest times were during the holidays and special family events when she was surrounded by her family and friends.

Dorothy was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport, CT and continued her education at the New York Chiropractic College in New York City, and received her D.C. degree from the Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, IN. Upon graduation she was a chiropractor in Bridgeport, CT before starting her family.

She was a devoted member of Saint Andrew Parish for many years, the Catholic Council of Women and the League of St. Joseph’s Manor.

The family would like to thank all those who helped care for Dorothy over the last several years at Bishop Wicke Health Center especially the doctors, nurses and aides who were instrumental in her comfort and care until her very last days.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Andrews Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. There will be no calling hours.
