A community tree-lighting event starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Veterans Memorial Park pavilion in downtown Shelton. There will be caroling, hot cocoa and baked goods.
Children are encouraged to create their own ornament before the lighting. Plumb Memorial Library will have a special ornament-making session earlier in the day.
The tree is being donated by Jones Family Farms.
A collection of new, unwrapped toys will be collected by TEAM Inc. for children in need.
Celebrate Shelton’s artisan market
Also on Saturday, there will be a “shop local” event with handmade artisan vendors from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Conti Building, 415 Howe Ave.
The Downtown Handmade Market also will take place during the same times on two other Saturdays, Dec. 13 and 20. The market is free and open to the public.
The tree-lighting and artisan market are part of Celebrate Shelton, a citywide initiative begun by two small business owners — Michael Skrtic, owner of the Glass Source Studio, and Nicole Heriot-Mikula, owner of bringtheHoopla.
