Route 8 north accident involved 'rollover with person trapped'

Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Companies 1 & 3 were called to Route 8 North at the area of exit 13 Friday evening.

Companies 1 & 3 were dispatched to Rt8 North in the area of exit 13 for the reported motor vehicle accident with fire and possible extrication.

Squad 1 arrived to find one car on its side resting against a pole with one occupant trapped. Squad 1 utilized the stabilization jacks and began extrication with the assistance of Engine 2 and Co. 3 units.

The occupant was removed within 10 minutes and transported by Echo Hose Ambulance. Squad 1 remained on scene providing scene safety while the wrecker removed the vehicle.

The state DOT is reporting the accident has now been cleared on Route 8 northbound in Shelton, slightly south of Exit 13 (Constitution Boulevard South), as off 5:20 p.m.

Earlier, the late Friday afternoon accident had been causing significant delays for motorists heading north in the area.

 ‘Rollover with person trapped’ snarls traffic on Route 8 north

UPDATE: According to a posting from Shelton’s Echo Hose Hook & Ladder, two Shelton fire companies — No. 1 and No. 3 — have responded to a “rollover with person trapped” on Route 8 northbound.

The state DOT first reported the accident at 4:19, and says it is almost a mile before Exit 13 (Constitution Boulevard South) on Route 8 north. The DOT then reported traffic delays were occurring in the area.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 8 backed up due to Shelton accident

An accident has occurred on Route 8 northbound, between exits 12 and 13.

As of about 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, multiple emergency vehicles have responded to the scene, and traffic is beginning to back up south of the accident scene on the highway for a few miles.

More motorists also are getting off the highway at earlier exits, such as Exit 11 (lower Bridgeport Avenue), leading to local delays.

The accident took place slightly north of the Platt Road overpass, close to Exit 13 (Constitution Boulevard South), and only appears to be impacting northbound traffic.
