Operation Fuel seeks assistance in helping people warm their homes

This holiday season, Operation Fuel is asking people to give the gift of warmth by making a donation to the nonprofit energy assistance program.

More than 300,000 Connecticut households won’t be able to afford their energy bills this winter, the agency said in a press release.

During the 2013-2014 fiscal year, Operation Fuel provided energy assistance to 45 Shelton households, with more than $21,000 in energy grants. In addition, 15 Shelton households received approximately $5,500 in energy assistance from Operation Fuel’s 2014 Summer Program.

How to contribute

Donations for Operation Fuel may be made at www.operationfuel.org or mailed to Operation Fuel, 75 Charter Oak Avenue, Suite 2-240, Hartford, CT 06106.

Donations also can be made through Operation Fuel’s Add-a-Dollar program, when paying monthly utility bills.

Operation Fuel’s statewide network of fuel banks began taking applications for the winter program on Dec. 1. Anyone who needs emergency energy assistance should call 2-1-1.
