Elizabeth E. Cook, age 89, of Shelton peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter L. Cook, Sr.
Elizabeth was born in Shelton on August 16, 1925, daughter of the late John and Mildred (Toth) Zaskalicky and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
She graduated with high honors from Shelton High School, Class of 1943. Elizabeth began working for Carlson Architects and worked for the former Derby Savings, Shelton Savings and Loan, the former Shelton Trust, and Tomasella Accountants before retiring from Winnick, Vine, & Welch, where she worked for 15 years.
A longtime member of St. Joseph Church, Elizabeth loved ballroom dancing and traveling with her husband and square dancing in her later years. She was an avid fan of UConn Men’s and Women’s basketball and enjoyed playing pinochle and rummy with her family and friends.
The sacrifices she made provided each of her children with many cherished opportunities.
She is the beloved mother of Francis Cook, Nancy Geissler (James), Thomas Cook (Mikki), John Cook (Gwen), Laura Cook, and Liz Sansom (Doug). She also leaves her brother, Michael Zaskalicky (Patricia), three step-grandchildren Miki Shiroyama, Jenny Sansom Ney, and Brenna Sansom, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Walter L. Cook, Jr., two brothers, Julius Zaskalicky and Dr. John Zaskalicky Raymond, and two sisters, Margaret Zaskalicky and Helen Zaskalicky Bodell.
The family also wishes to thank Grace Samojedny for her loving care and kindness.
Friends may greet family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Monday from 3 to 7 PM. On Tuesday, her procession will leave Riverview at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church in Shelton. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby.
