The CABE awards are designed to recognize local school boards that exhibit effective leadership by working together as teams. Criteria includes board leadership, student achievement, board member professional development, policy, and community relations.

The Shelton school board received the recognition during the annual CABE/CAPSS (Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents) convention in November.

CABE serves local and regional school districts in Connecticut, with 145 members. The organization advocates for public education at the state Capitol and in Washington.
