Plumb Memorial Library is at 65 Wooster Street.


Plumb Memorial Library Library will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and remain closed Thursday, Jan. 1. It will re-open for a regular schedule on Friday and Saturday.

However, the Huntington Branch at the Community Center which will close New Year’s Eve at 2:30 p.m. and be closed Thursday. It will reope Friday for regular schedule.

Collection information, research databases, downloadable audio and ebook links and borrower information can be found 24/7 through the library website sheltonlibrarysystem.org.

Stay & Play — Fridays, Jan 2 and 9, 10:30 a.m. Adults chat while children play in a safe secure environment; light refreshments provided. Suitable for babies and young children.

Teen Volunteer Orientation — Saturday, Jan. 3, 10 a.m. Teens who need community service hours  are asked to stop in anytime to complete an application and attend this orientation; no registration required. Volunteers must be 12-19 years old, and may not be completing these hours for court or disciplinary board assignments. Call 203-924-9461 and talk to Margaret for more information.

Teen Saturday — Saturday, Jan. 3, 1:30 p.m. Teens 13-19 share a book over an activity, then it’s snacks with a movie. Drop in.

Gingerbread House Workshop — Saturday, Jan. 3, 2 p.m. Families assemble and decorate a house in Plumb’s annual Gingerbread Workshop, then create a village to display for the winter; all materials provided but registration required.

I Spy — January challenge to name all the characters in the new Children’s Department mural; details when the contest begins Jan. 5 with an announcement at 9 a.m., for kids 1-12

Budding Bookworms — Mondays, Jan. 5 and 12, 10:30 a.m. A themed drop in story and craft time for kids 1-5 years old and their caregivers.

Fun for Little Ones — Tuesday, Jan. 6, 10 a.m. Children ages 1-5 are invited to join Mrs. Fritsch for stories, songs, activities and a special theme related craft, siblings welcome; drop in.

knit! — Tuesdays, Jan 6 and 13, 6 p.m. Adult fiber fans meet to knit, crochet and chat, lots of support and fellowship in this drop in group, stop in and bring a friend.

Book Buzz — Tuesdays, Jan. 6 and 13, 2 p.m. Drop-in with Miss Maura for weekly book and book based craft plus a healthy snack. This program for preschool children and their caregivers welcomes audience participation.

Full Steam Ahead — Wednesdays, Jan. 7 and 14, 1:30 p.m. STEM plus Art focus for pre-school kids in a weekly hands-on activity with Ms Maura, drop in.

AlphaBits  — Thursday, Jan. 8, 10 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them Kindergarten ready; drop in session, siblings welcome.

Shelton School Readiness Council — Thursday, Jan. 8, 2 p.m. Open council meeting of Shelton supporters of early literacy; new members welcome.

Women’s Health — Thursday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m. Dr. Zoe Hickson shares insights into getting the year off to a great start for women of all ages. Drop in.

Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch library, 203-926-0111). A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
