The Board of Aldermen has allocated $8,500 for architectural, engineering and construction management services related to adding an elevator at Plumb Memorial Library.

Plumb Memorial Library is at 65 Wooster Street.

The overall cost of the project is not yet known, but will be considerable.

Alderman Jack Finn said the project is long overdue and will be “money well spent.”

Andrew Mollo, a Friends of the Shelton Libraries member, said accessibility to the library’s main floor is now an issue for disabled, elderly and infirmed individuals.

“This is a top priority,” Mollo said in urging aldermen to fund the elevator project.
