Obituary: Anthony R. Mingrone Sr., 86, of Shelton; Funeral is Saturday

Anthony R. Mingrone, Sr., age 86, of Shelton entered into rest on Monday, December 22, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He is the devoted husband of 62 years to Genevieve (Vagnini) Mingrone.

Mr. Mingrone was born in Derby on May 29, 1928, son of the late Samuel and Rose Mingrone and was a Shelton resident for most of his life.

He was Head of the Carpentry Department at Emmett O’Brien Technical School for many years. His family and colleagues lovingly referred to him as a “woodologist”.

While he was at Emmet, he and his students would build a house a year as part of their curriculum. He enjoyed working with all of his students. Mr. Mingrone was also a Little League Coach at Shelton National Little League for over 50 years, a member of the Board of Directors of The Fr. McKenna St. Vincent DePaul Society and also a musician playing in area bands.

He is the beloved father of John Everett Mingrone, and his wife Janice , and Anthony R. Mingrone, Jr. , and his wife Darlene. He is the cherished grandfather of Joseph, Erin, Ariel, and Felicia Mingrone. He is the brother of Jenny Karpovich and Josephine Blackwell and the late Jimmy Morgan, William Mingrone, Alfred Mingrone, Kay Sampiere, and Mary Ferrara.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church 420 Coram Ave. Shelton. Burial will be private.

At the request of his family in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Grammar School, 424 Coram Ave., Shelton, CT 06484.
