Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, who represents a part of Shelton, will mark National Pharmacist Day by getting her flu shot and speaking about how Connecticut families can protect themselves and their families.
DeLauro, a Democrat in her 13th term, will get her flu shot on Monday morning at Apex Pharmacy in Hamden. She will be joined by a representative of the Quinnipiack Valley Health District when making her remarks.
In a recent report, the state Department of Public Health reported that influenza is widespread and increasing. Visits to emergency departments have also increased across Connecticut, to the highest level seen this flu season, according to a release from DeLauro’s office.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone age 6 months and older get an annual flu vaccination, with rare exceptions. According to the CDC, flu activity most commonly peaks between December and February.
DeLauro represents the Third Congressional District, which covers the greater New Haven area and other areas, including a section of Shelton. Other parts of Shelton are in the Fourth Congressional District, which is represented by Democrat Jim Himes.
