New liquor store to open in Huntington Center

A new liquor store is coming to Huntington Center. GlenRo Sprit Shoppe will open at 528 Shelton Ave., in the location previously occupied by Hunt’s Wine Castle & Spirits.

Shelton-GlenRoLiquorIt will be in the Huntington Village Shopping Center, which is accessed via Old Shelton Road between Webster and People’s United banks.

The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) recently approved the new business.

The store now is closed as the new owners prepare the retail space for the new establishment. “Coming soon,”  signs in the windows say.

According to P&Z paperwork, GlenRo will be open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The store is 1,650 square feet and the owner is Laurence (Larry) Cass.

Hunt’s Wine Castle & Spirits had opened in 2011 and was owned by husband and wife, Bob and Kathi Hunt.

Also have store in Monroe

GlenRo also operates a liquor store in Monroe on Route 110, which first opened in 1972. According to its website, that store carries more than 3,500 different wines and over 1,000 kinds of beer.

There is another liquor store in Huntington Center as well. Huntington Package is located at 54 Huntington Plaza, which is behind the former Beechwood Market (now the Common Bond Market).
