Resident questions Christmas light display at city park

A Shelton resident has questioned the appropriateness of recent holiday displays on city-owned properties, including Constitution Park on Constitution Boulevard South.

The resident told the Board of Aldermen during a recent meeting that a lighted sculpture of an angel, trumpets and horns at the park violated the First Amendment and the required separation of church and state. “It’s obvious the city of Shelton is promoting a religion,” he said.

Aldermen did not respond to his remarks.
