STORM UPDATE 11 A.M. TUESDAY: Snow slowing down, some drivers venturing out now

As of about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, snow is still is falling in Shelton but it’s lighter than a few hours ago and winds have definitely diminished a bit. That means less snow blowing in your face as you walk or in your windshield as you drive.

Many plows are out clearing roads, parking lots and driveways. Main roads are passable but there’s some snow on them, but other roads likely are in worse shape.

With Gov. Dannel P. Malloy having lifted the driving ban for private cars in Fairfield County at 8:30 a.m., a small number of cars are venturing out.

Most stores or businesses are closed. That could begin to change this afternoon, as the roads become more passable.

Right now, the biggest issue is large snow piles from private contractors, or homeowners with shovels. They are pushing or tossing snow into the road. Road corners also can be a big tricky due to snow piles as well.

It continues to look like Shelton received about 6 to 8 inches, perhaps just a bit more, which is considerable but nowhere near what was expected.
