Shelton High welcomes new housemaster

James Zavodjancik is the new House 2 housemaster at Shelton High School. He began work on Jan. 20, the first day of midterm exams at the high school.

Shelton High Headmaster Beth Smith said Zavodjancik “has experience in both central office and building-level administration, as well as having served as a high school teacher. I am excited to have him join the SHS administrative team.”

The vacancy was created when Steven Swensen was hired as principal of Windsor Locks High School in December.

 

Was administrator, teacher in Milford

Zavodjancik, who has a Ph.D., is the former assistant principal at East Shore Middle School in Milford. Prior to that, he served as a curriculum leader and Spanish teacher in Milford.

A multi-step process was used to hire the successful candidate for the position. The first-round interview committee consisted of central office administrators, building-level administrators, Board of Education members and the teachers union president.

The second round interview committee consisted of central office administrators, building-level administrators, teachers, parents, students, a secretary, a Board of Education member and a school counselor.

There was also a school site visit conducted by School Supt. Freeman Burr and Smith.
