A new Planet Fitness is opening in the Valley. A grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Derby location, 56 Pershing Drive, Derby, will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
There will be giveaways, raffles and food. Tours of the new facility will highlight the strength and cardio equipment; and a spa area with massage chairs, hydro-massage beds and tanning. The festivities will be broadcast live by STAR 99.9 radio.
Among those expected to attend are Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto, Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce President Bill Purcell, state Sen. Joseph Crisco, and state Rep. and House Minority Leader Themis Klarides.
Part of redevelopment efforts
Matt Wilcox, vice president of marketing for the Derby Planet Fitness franchise owner, said the fitness facility is excited to be part of redevelopment efforts on the Pershing Drive retail corridor (off Route 8), where a Panera Bread and ALDI supermarket recently opened.
“The community has really embraced us and, by holding this event, we are able to thank everyone for helping Planet Fitness open our doors,” Wilcox said.
The Derby Planet Fitness is owned by Orange-based ECP-Holdings Group Inc., which operates 23 Planet Fitness locations in Connecticut, 17 in New York state, and 10 in New Mexico.
There also is a Planet Fitness in Shelton at 760 Bridgeport Ave.
