The Shelton High boys basketball team lost a 72-50 decision to Notre Dame of West Haven in their regular-season finale on Monday night.
Matt Terrasi’s tear-drop runner gave the Gaels a 47-46 lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Green Knights ended the game on a 26-3 run to head into the SCC and state playoffs on a winning note.
Terrasi had a team-high 14 points for Shelton, while Jeff Stockmal and Jack Gleason added nine apiece and Casey Belade eight.
A 3-pointer by Terrasi and driving basket by Belade staked Shelton (10-10) its first lead of the game, 39-36, coming out of the half. The Gaels then pushed their advantage to 45-40, before ND ran off a 6-0 run to close the quarter. Terrasi’s runner gave Shelton its final lead of the game, as the Green Knights held the Gaels without a field goal the rest of the way.
Notre Dame led by as many as 11 points in the first half, as the Gaels trimmed that deficit to 34-27 at the half.
The SCC playoffs are set to begin on Thursday night.
