Free family concert Sunday in Shelton focuses on animals

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will present a family concert and a Big Band show in Shelton during the next two weekends.

Shelton-NhsoLogoThe NHSO Family Concert Series concludes with Saint Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals” on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at Shelton Intermediate School. The performance also includes music by Bach, Gershwin and Rimsky-Korsakov. It is free for all ages and designed for young people.

Starting at 1:30, children can tap, tickle and toot real orchestral instruments in the NHSO Instrument Discovery Zone. Following the concert, families can stay for an afternoon snack and to meet the performers.

 

Big Band sound returns

The NHSO presents “Big Band Meets the Symphony” on Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at SIS. The program will include Henry Mancini’s “Moon River” and “Strings on Fire,” W.C. Handy’s “St. Louis Blues,” Leroy Anderson’s “Clarinet Candy” and Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Tickets to the Big Band-themed concert are $35 or $49. Student tickets are $10 and KidTix (children ages 7-17) are free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
