Shaye Roscoe has been named the new executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

The Shelton native officially took over her leadership role on Jan. 1, following the retirement of the club’s longtime executive director, Jack Ribas.

The local club has facilities in Shelton and Ansonia, and Roscoe has been director of the Shelton facility since 2010.

Roscoe was appointed by the club’s board of directors, who said that Roscoe’s “experience, knowledge and integrity are a great match for the work, staff, and friends of the Boys & Girls Club. [Her] passion to advocate for youth will advance our mission in our local communities and help spread the vision of all children reaching their full potential.”

Roscoe said she looked forward to being executive director. “I truly love what I do — making a difference in the life of a child is an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said. “I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to do so.”

About her background

Roscoe started her involvement with the club as an intern in her youth. During her 14 years at the organization, she was teen director, program director and Shelton unit director.

She became unit director of the Boys & Girls Club in Milford when it opened in 2008, and its membership grew to more than 100 youth in the first year.

Roscoe has an associate’s degree in recreation and leisure studies from Mitchell College and a bachelor’s degree in the same from Southern Connecticut State University. She is certified in more than 25 Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) leadership training areas and participated in BGCA’s advanced leadership practice. Roscoe is a graduate of the 2012 Leadership Greater Valley program.

‘A standout’

Sue DeLeon, Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley board president, said Roscoe is good fit to lead the nonprofit youth development organization.

“[Roscoe] was a standout from the very beginning,” DeLeon said. “She has been an asset to the club, and we are extremely fortunate to have her on board as our leader. With her enthusiasm, confidence, and commitment to serving our youth, I have no doubt she will succeed in her new role and positively impact both the lives of our children and the continued growth of our organization.”

Roscoe said the club improves the lives of many local children. “This organization truly believes in creating a safe and fun environment for the children in our community, and we have an exceptional staff who are dedicated and compassionate about our members,” she said.

“Our organization has been blessed with a diverse and knowledgeable board of directors who provide me with endless support,” Roscoe added.

She also honored the legacy of her longtime predecessor, Jack Ribas, in her comments. “I am grateful to Jack Ribas for his outstanding leadership model and the success that he has provided our club with for 34 years, and I look forward to carrying on this tradition,” Roscoe said.
