OSHA: Roof snow removal can be hazardous, with two fatal falls in Mass.

With additional snow, sleet and rain expected in this area, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) officials are reminding employers and workers removing snow from roofs to be aware of the hazards and safeguards associated with this work.

There already have been reports of falls, including two fatal falls in Massachusetts — one from a rooftop and one through a skylight, according to OSHA.

Officials at OSHA said falls from roofs and roof edges, falls through skylights, and falls from aerial lifts are a major concern with accumulating snow, ice and rain from multiple storms.

Detailed information on rooftop snow removal hazards and safeguards is available from OSHA.
