Run or walk to boost the Valley’s Boys & Girls Club

Boys-girls-clubThe Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley will have its annual Herbie Rollinson Memorial 5K Run-Walk on Sunday, April 12 at the Derby Greenway.

Registration is now open at BGC-LNV.org/5K Run-Walk. The fee is $25 and includes a commemorative T-shirt. Deadline is March 31 to guarantee correct T-shirt size.

 

Begins at BJ’s in Derby

The 5K will start at the BJ’s Wholesale Club entrance to the greenway. Participants will continue to the Derby-Shelton Bridge end, and then return to the starting line. Water will be available along the course, and at the start/finish line.

Runners will pick up their race bibs at 8 a.m., the walk begins at 8:30, the 5K run at 9, and post-race activities and refreshments are at 10 am. Awards will be presented at 10:30.

There will be awards for first place, second place, third place, last place, and 12 and Under first place.

 

Proceeds support club programs

Sponsorships are welcome and needed; information available at the event website. Race proceeds from the event will support programs at the local Boys & Girls Club three facilities — including the one in Shelton — as well as satellite programs at Elizabeth Shelton and Perry Hill schools.

Herb Rollinson was a director the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys & Girls Club from 1972 until his death in 2008.
