SHELTON WEATHER WARNING: Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain on the way

A Freezing Rain Warning has been issued for Shelton and the region from midnight tonight to 10 a.m. Saturday, with significant rain on the way but temperatures expected to drop below freezing tonight.

“A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain develops after midnight, quickly changing to freezing rain late tonight before gradually changing to plain rain Saturday morning,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said of inland communities such as Shelton.

“Dangerous travel conditions are expected due to icy roadways late tonight into Saturday morning,” the NWS said.

 

Snow, sleet also could accumulate

The overnight low tonight should be near or slightly below freezing in Shelton, with the NWS saying up to a half inch of combined snow and sleet could accumulate in parts of the city.

Once the change to all rain takes place, the precipitation will be heavy at times, with a half to three-quarters of an inch of rain possible during the day on Saturday. The daytime high on Saturday will be 43. The rain should around 4 p.m. Fog is likely Saturday night.

There’s a slight chance of more rain and snow on Sunday, with strong winds, and a daytime high of 43 degrees.

 

Nice on St. Patrick Day’s?

Monday should be sunny and warmer in Shelton, with a high near 46 degrees, according to the NWS.

Tuesday, which is St. Patrick’s Day, will be mostly sunny and a high around 45 degrees.

The rest of the week should generally see daytime temperatures in the 40s and nighttime lows in the 20s, with no rain or snow in the forecast for Shelton, the NWS said.
