The contest is open to high school seniors of Irish-American descent (5 young women and 5 young men).

They are interviewed by a panel of independent judges, who choose the winners based upon their knowledge of Irish culture and on community interests and activities.

The winners receive a scholarship toward college.

The four-member Shamrock Court, including Katherine, were invited to participate in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities on March 17, including a Mass, flag raising, breakfast, parade, and luncheon and awards ceremony.
