Shelton Police Department member honored for 30 years of service


Shelton Police Sgt. Peter W. Zaksewicz, above, receives a plaque honoring his 30 years of service with the Shelton Police Department from Mayor Mark Lauretti.

Zaksewicz was first hired by the department in 1985, and previously had worked in law enforcement in Ansonia.

He is the department’s lead fatal motor vehicle accident investigator, oversees traffic coordination for all major events, and is a hostage negotiator.

Zaksewicz also is a certified police instructor, an honor guard member, and served on the SWAT team. He is a U.S. Army veteran.


Promotion ceremony

Zaksewicz received the award during the Shelton Police Department’s promotion and recognition ceremony, held March 26 at the Shelton Senior Center.

Michael Maglione, city emergency management director, was master of ceremonies at the event. Lauretti and Police Chief Joel Hurliman also spoke, and Francesca Scarpa from Center Stage Theatre sang the National Anthem and God Bless America.

During the event, two other department members were honored for their 30 years of service, commendations were awarded for extraordinary actions (including to Zaksewicz), and eight members were promoted.
