The event is free and open to the public. The Gaelhawks are the 2014 reigning New England District champion.

The team of 21 students and mentors have been competing in district events for the past eight weeks. They have won all three qualifying competitions they participated in — Waterbury, Conn.; UMass Dartmouth, Mass.; and Hartford, Conn.

In addition, the Gaelhawks were awarded the Chairman’s Award (the highest team honor) at the Hartford competition for overall excellence.

This year’s game is ‘Recycle Rush’

Shelton-RoboticsGaelhawksTeams competing at WPI have been working since Jan. 3 to design, build, program and test robots for this year’s game, called “Recycle Rush.”

Robots score points by stacking shipping totes on scoring platforms on their side of the field, topping those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of litter, represented by pool noodles.

Team alliances that win at this week’s district championship will qualify to compete in the national championship from April 22–25 in St. Louis.
