Shelton Police Department member Christopher Nugent was recognized during a recent promotion ceremony by the municipal law enforcement agency.
Nugent was promoted to detective last fall, and was among those recognized during the March 26 event.
Nugent previously served as the department’s K-9 handler, and the police dog under his care — Jager — also was honored during the ceremony due to the canine’s retirement from the force.
Another department member, Lubelia DeBrum, also was promoted to detective. DeBrum is the first female sworn detective in the agency’s history.
Det. Christopher Nugent’s background
Nugent was hired as a Shelton police officer in 2006. He was a field training officer and the K-9 handler for six years.
In 2009, he was named Shelton Police Officer of the Year.
Nugent graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology.
He is a graduate of the Fairfield County Detective School.
Jager, a German shepherd, began his service with the department in 2008. He was paired with then-officer Christopher Nugent.
Jager retired from the force in the fall of 2014. During his time with the department, Jager assisted in about 75 successful tracks and apprehended as many as 15 dangerous suspects.
Nugent and Jager also were active in the community. The pair was known to visit area schools and attend local functions and programs.
“K-9 Jager was an asset to the department and assisted several local, state and federal agencies during his career,” according to the ceremony program.
