Housatonic River Cleanup Inc. volunteers created a 65-cubic-yard pile of litter removed from the river at the Sunnyside Boat Ramp.

The annual Housatonic River Cleanup for Shelton, Stratford and Milford will take place Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

In Shelton, volunteers should go to the Sunnyside Boat Launch behind Sunnyside School on Route 110. Registering is required to be part of the cleanup.

Volunteers of any age, as well as well as groups and individuals, are welcome. People don’t have to stay all day and can help for only a few hours. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Drawing for gift certificates

All participants will be entered in a drawing to win gift certificates. Food and refreshments will be served.

Volunteers should dress for the outdoors, wearing water-resistant footwear, gloves and other appropriate gear. People may want to bring bug spray and sunscreen.

Organizers will provide garbage bags and rubber gloves. Boating experience is not needed, and people with pickups are encouraged to bring their vehicles to help haul away collected debris.

Held rain or shine

The cleanup is held rain or shine. The goal is to restore the natural beauty of the Housatonic River by removing litter and other debris from its shoreline.
