State Reps. Jason Perillo and Ben McGorty of Shelton have launched “Small Business Highlights,” an initiative where they will meet with local Shelton businesses and highlight the stories of their success in a challenging Connecticut economy.
For their first installment, Perillo and McGorty sat down with Mathew Calandro, owner of Caloroso Eatery & Bar in downtown Shelton. Caloroso, at 100 Center St., was voted Connecticut magazine’s Best Neighborhood Restaurant in 2013.
The restaurant was established by Mathew and his wife Kelly three years ago. They were looking to provide the area with a casual, contemporary, and family-oriented dining experience.
‘A success story’
“Caloroso really represents a success story built on the solid foundation of hard work and vision rooted in passion for Italian-American food and the satisfaction that comes from seeing customers happy,” Perillo said.
“The story of Caloroso’s success is really a story about someone local having a dream and making it reality,” McGorty said.
